This year’s "Art on the Town" event is going to be bigger and better than ever.  To start things off with a bang, there will be the second annual Wilsonville Parade on Saturday morning, with the theme "Junk to Funk".  The parade will wind through town and end at Town Center Park and our annual Festival of Arts. We know you’ll want to be there too!

Here some facts about the Festival:

FESTIVAL  OF  ARTS  FACT  SHEET

WHAT:                    “Art On The Town” is a two-day arts celebration, kicking off in Grand Fashion
                                    this year with the "Junk to Funk" PARADE through town.

WHEN:                    June 5th & 6th 2010 - Festival runs Saturday 10 AM – 6 PM; Sunday 10 – 5

WHERE:                   Wilsonville Visitor Information Center at Town Center Park

WHO:                      All ages welcomed at this festival celebrating the arts and artists!

                              Juried Visual Art Show features the work of 75-100 professional artists.

                              Live music, dance, storytelling on the Main Stage.

                              Student Art Pavilion showcases artwork from the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.

                              Children’s Pavilion provides interactive art for festival guests ages 3 -12.

Festival Guide

Wilsonville Festival of Arts 2010 Art Show

Show Dates: 6/5/10 - 6/6/10

Application Deadline: 2/27/10 Midnight Pacific Time

 REQUIREMENTS - See Jury Requirements

Images: 4 + 1 display

Jury Fee: $20.00 for the first category, $5 for each additional category - maximum 3 total.

 THEME

This year's theme for the Festival is 'Recycled & Upcycled.  It is not necessary to follow the Festival theme to be considered for inclusion.

 SECOND DECADE

The Festival is beginning its second decade with new jurying for all artists.

 COMMERCIAL SPONSORS

Artists/vendors should be aware that booth space is provided to commercial sponsors of the Festival who make a major donation.

 FESTIVAL LAYOUT

There will be a new Artist/vendor Festival layout this year.  Request for specific spaces or other accommodations will be considered but not guaranteed.

January 15, 2010- Artist applications are available on www.WilsonvilleArts.org for download, printing and mailing.

February 27, 2010- Artist applications due with Jury materials and fee included, midnight PT

March 20, 2010- Notification of jury results

March 27, 2010- Accept or decline deadline

April 10, 2010- Show fees, completed contract due - fees are not refundable

June 4-5, 2010- Show setup and opening

June 6, 2010- Show closing and break down

 

Show Costs

If accepted, there will be the booth fee of $100 per 10'X10' space. Please see 'Festival Products' below for additional information.

Security

There will be security on site during hours the show is closed. This includes Friday evening through Sunday morning.  Each exhibitor, however, is responsible for their own security and will hold the Festival harmless for any loss.

 Slides, links to websites, web applications will not be accepted in lieu of required materials.

 

Artists may enter in a maximum of 3 categories for jurying. Artists wishing to exhibit work produced in more than one media categories must apply with separate application, set of images, and applicable jury fee for each category.

 

Jury Requirements

4 images of artwork.

1 image of your body of work as you display it for sale.

This can be a booth shot, an image from a show or gallery, the set-up of your display apparatus, with your work.

Jury fee(s) payable by check, cashiers check or money order

 

Artist Statement

For the jury, you will need to submit an Artist Process Statement with your application. Explain to the jury how you create your work and what makes it unique. We are looking for process, not philosophy. Please limit this statement to 100 characters or less. The jury will be asked to evaluate work using these general guidelines:

• Original thought and intent

• Overall concept

• Demonstrated excellence in craftsmanship

• Consistency of style and presentation

We will maintain a waitlist of applicants within the media categories.

 

 

Rules and Guidelines –(Please read carefully!)

Wilsonville Festival of Arts considers the enforcement of its rules to be our exclusive right and responsibility. Adherence to these rules during the show is necessary to maintain the quality of the show at a high level for the artists and the patrons. Non-compliance with the Rules & Guidelines can result in requests for work to be removed from display and for sale, and/or expulsion from the show and ineligibility for jurying into future shows. If an artist is removed from the show for non-compliance of the rules, no show fee refunds will be issued.

 

All work exhibited must be original art produced by the artist. Work done by a production studio is not acceptable. Buy-sell and/or imports are not allowed. Work from kits, commercial designs, done in classes or workshops is also prohibited.

 

All work exhibited must be for sale. Artists may exhibit work only in the category in which they were juried. Exhibited work must be consistent in style, quality, and method with juried images.

 

Eligible Mediums

All work must be original.  The following categories will be considered (some mediums have specific requirements). While Wilsonville Festival of Arts does not have specific numbers for each media category, it is important that there is diversity and balance in media both for the patrons and the selling artists.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

ALL WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL TO THE ARTIST; NO BUY-SELL OR MASS PRODUCTION IS ALLOWED IN ANY CATEGORY.

 

 

 

2-D Mixed Media

Art using multiple media that is less than 2" thick; fiber that is not wearable including batik, silk paintings, sculpture, paper, etc. Art must be comprised of a minimum of 75% modified materials.

3-D Mixed Media

Art using multiple media that is more than 2" thick; sculpture, paper, basketry, etc. Art must be comprised of a minimum of 75% modified materials.

Clay

Artwork using clay as the primary medium, including, but not limited to, porcelain, stoneware, raku, etc. Art must be comprised of a minimum of 90% of the artist’s original creation; but, may include production work if components are all made by the artist. Any molds used must have been created by the applying artist.

Cottage Edibles & Crafts

The popular Cottage Edibles area offers original creations such as soup mixes, jams, seasonings and herbal arts, as well as handmade soaps and other delights. Culinary and Cottage Arts are placed in the Culinary and Cottage Arts Themed area located on Maple Street. Edibles include prepackaged foods- salsa, jams, dips, etc.

Crafts include soaps, lotions, aromatherapy, etc.

Digital Art

Art that is digitally enhanced including photography, painting, drawing, etc. Art must be comprised of a minimum of 90% original work made by the applying artist. All Photos used and enhanced digitally must have been taken or created by the artist.

Drawing

Art that is created with pastels, pencils, charcoal, crayon, etc. Drawing can be done on any format including canvas, paper, etc. Limited editions of 250 or less signed and numbered are allowed for sale. 75% of work displayed in the booth must be original artwork; not more than 25% can be comprised of reproductions, including limited editions.

Glass

Art using Glass as the primary medium in any form. Includes glass, furniture, containers, wall sculpture, blown, torched, kiln work, cast glass, etched, fused, Plexiglas, etc. 75% of each piece of glass artwork must have been modified by the applying artist.

Jewelry Beads not created by the Artist

Includes jewelry beads not created by the artist such as crochet, wire wrapping, strung beads, "Stringers" (artists who string beads not created by the artist on one or more strands to form jewelry), and seed bead wearable jewelry art (must be arranged in an artistic form).

Jewelry - Fine

Wearable art in the form of jewelry using precious stones, molds, and pure metals; including lost cast wax process or molds created by the applying artist. Precious stones and pure metals do not need to be made by the artist; however, the artist must have done the actual lapidary work.

Jewelry - Ornamental

Wearable art in the form of jewelry that uses materials not specified in fine jewelry, glass or beads not created by the artist. Examples of ornamental jewelry art include sawdust, enameling, metal punching, silver clay, plastic, watches, etc.. All designs must be original to the artist. Only 5% of beads not created by the artist may used; 95% of the beads must have been made by the applying artist.

Jewelry- Glass

Wearable art in the form of jewelry that uses glass as the primary medium. Techniques include cast glass, fused, blown, torched, and kiln techniques. 95% of the beads used must have been created by the artist. No more than 5% of beads can be unoriginal to the artist.

Leather

Leather as the primary medium in the form of functional (belts, bags, shoes, hats, wallets) or decorative (wall hangings, sculpture) art. Leather can be cut, stamped, sewn, embossed, or embellished according to the artists original design. All designs must be unique to the artist. Only 5% of each piece may include embellishments not created by the artist. Artist must have modified each piece by a minimum of 75%.

 

 

 

Metal

Art that has metal as the main medium and that is modified into wall art, furniture, home decor, statues, etc. Metal must be 75% altered in each art piece. Laser and engravings are allowed as embellishments only. No "laser cut only" items allowed.

Other Art

Art that does not fit into any other category, including hammocks, corkers, light switch plates, fan pulls, animal apparel (dog hats, collars), etc.

Painting – Acrylic & Oil

Painting using oil or acrylic paints on canvas, or limited edition of fewer than 250 signed and numbered, high quality prints or glicees. Painting can be done on any format such as canvas, paper, masonite, etc. 75% of the booth display must be original artwork, and only 25% may be comprised of reproductions (including limited edition reproductions).

Painting – Watercolor

Paintings using watercolor as the main medium or limited edition of fewer than 250 signed and numbered high quality prints or glicee's. Painting can be done on any format including canvas, paper, etc. 75% of the booth display must be original artwork, and not more than 25% may be comprised of reproductions (including limited editions reproductions).

Photography

Art using a camera, including black and white or color digital or original prints from negatives. Images must be original to the artist, but may include limited editions of fewer than 250 high quality signed and numbered reproduction prints. 75% of the booth display must be original artwork, and not more than 25% may be comprised of reproductions (including limited edition reproduction prints).

Printmaking

Art created by a stamp including lithography, screen printing woodcuts, engravings, etching, mezzotint, aquatint, drypoint, and others. Each piece must be from the originally cut stamp and be non-wearable art. 90% of each stamp must have been made by the artist with only 10% of the stamp coming from some other source. Limited editions of fewer than 250 signed and numbered reproduction prints are allowed for sale. 75% of the booth must be original artwork and less than 25% can be comprised of reproductions (including limited edition reproductions).

Sculpture

Art that is three-dimensionally sculptural in nature and is in one medium, including large pieces from any medium. Sculpture pieces are one of a kind or limited to forged series. 100% of the molds must be created by the artist.

Wearable

Fiber that fabricated into clothing, bags, scarves, hats, socks, shoes, etc. either handmade or hand painted. Stamps used for painting must be created by the artist and unique to their wearable art. Each piece must be comprised of a minimum of 75% modification to be considered artwork. Materials and dyes may be purchased to create this art.

Wood

Art which uses wood as the primary medium, including furniture, pens, games, toys, containers, musical instruments, decorative objects, etc. 75% of the wood must be modified to be considered art. No buy-sell items such as manufactured cutting boards are allowed. Only items made originally by the artist are allowed.

Artwork & Display - Applicants guarantee that all artwork and cottage edible products displayed is their own original creation. Buy-Sell products and mass-produced work are not allowed. The Wilsonville Festival of the Arts has the right to investigate the origins of all artwork presented. If any artwork is found to be not original of the applicant's creation, the Wilsonville Festival of the Arts has the right to refuse participation without refund. The original, creating artist or direct representative must be present both days of the Festival. If the no one is present in the booth during event, the booth will be shut down until its representative returns. Artist agrees that images provided will be used for the jury process and may also be used for specific event-related publicity. Event participants agree to allow use of videos and photographs taken at event for promotional purposes. Any photos taken by the event are the property of the festival. All displayed work must have been accepted by the jury process. Work that has not been accepted during the jury process or is not approved will be removed from the festival and will jeopardize an artist’s exhibiting license. Please contact us in advance if you have any questions or concerns. If artist has sold or licensed images of his/her work which will be displayed at the Festival, they must disclose licensing through on-site public disclaimer signage stating that some of the images being presented have been licensed for reproduction and may be found at commercial sale as reproductions being sold at discounted prices.

 

On-Site Set-Up/Strike Requirements - All applicants are required to check in prior to setting up.   Booths must be set-up by 9:30 a.m., open by 10 a.m. and remain open until 6 p.m. Saturday and 5pm. Sunday. Applicants must claim their assigned booth space no later than 8:30 a.m. Saturday or it will be forfeited. Applicants are responsible for removing debris and ensuring the general cleanliness of the area surrounding their booths throughout the Festival and following its conclusion.  We request Artists to return their survey to the info booth at which time they will have their jury items returned.

 

On-Site Safety & Security - Applicants shall display all work at their own risk. The Wilsonville Festival of the Arts and Visitor Information Center are not responsible for damage, theft, or loss of artwork or display furnishings. All participants are responsible for their own replacement, comprehensive, and liability insurance. Applicants must obey all pertinent safety codes and laws, including, but not limited to, fire, safety and parking regulations. Canopy tents must be fire retardant. The Wilsonville Festival of the Arts will take place rain or shine. Applicants agree to be present despite weather conditions. Each participant is responsible for preparing their displays to withstand weather fluctuations including rain and wind.  Canopy tents are not mandatory but are highly recommended. 

 

Booth area- Artists/vendors must maintain their items within the designated booth area they have purchased.  The City does not allow pounded staking of tents so as to protect the water system.  Water bucket weights will be provided if Artist/vendor does not have other options.

 

Liability Disclaimer - Applicants must comply with all Festival, municipal and state rules, regulations and policies listed in this application, or policies included in the applicant acceptance notification. Any noncompliance will cause elimination and applicant may be immediately removed from the Festival with no refund of fees or compensation for expenditures. Applicants also may be barred from acceptance to future Wilsonville Festivals of the Arts events. Wilsonville Festival of the Arts and at its sole discretion, may reserve the right to refuse participation by any applicant, entertainer, food vendor or any other such participant for any reason. Wilsonville Festival of the Arts is not liable for refunds or any other liabilities whatsoever for applicant's failure to obey the rules and regulations or due to the unstable condition of the area in which the Festival is produced, caused by, but not limited to, weather, fire or other calamity, any act of nature, public enemy, strikes, statutes, ordinances of any legal authority or any other cause beyond it's control. By fulfilling application and engaging in participation, all applicants release and hold harmless the Wilsonville Festival of the Arts, the City of Wilsonville, Clackamas County, the State of Oregon, and all event sponsors from any and all liability, as outlined in the rules and regulations.
