The Future of
Arts, Culture and Heritage
in Wilsonville:
It’s Up to You !
The future of public art,
cultural events and the historical preservation in Wilsonville is at
a crossroads. If it is important to you, it’s time to step up and
join the discussion as the future is charted and decisions are made.
Step One was taken Jan. 13 when members of
local arts organizations – Wilsonville Arts and Culture Council,
Citizens for Public Art and the Wilsonville-Boones Ferry Historic
Society - along with other interested citizens, decided that
the value of arts, culture and heritage is too great an asset for
the City of Wilsonville to be lost. The consensus was to work
together as Wilsonville Community Arts United (WCAU), to
design a strategic plan, develop a board of directors, and begin
initial fundraising and outreach to the community for public input.
Now it’s time to
hear from you, the citizens of Wilsonville. Your input is vital.

drawing and painting at Wilsonville High School. A professional painter
himself, Shotola-Hardt is one of the artists-owners of Blackfish Gallery
in Portland's Pearl District. He serves on the boards of the Wilsonville
Arts & Culture Council and the Oregon Art Education Association. He
founded the Wilsonville Festival of Arts and served as its Artistic
Director for the first three years. In 2005, he was the Oregon Secondary
Art Educator of the Year.

Chicago for four years. He is teaching Photo I and is looking to build
the school’s 3-D art program.
Also hanging work at this show will be photography students from De La
Salle North Catholic High School. De La Salle North Catholic High
School, in North Portland, provides a rigorous, faith-based high
school-education and a professional internship program for all students.
The Corporate Internship Program promotes self-sufficiency by providing
career & life-skills training, personal mentoring and paid employment.
The majority of students are non-Catholic, non-white, and from
economically challenged families.

The Book Notes series has really taken off!
Attendance has blossomed and the whole library really rocks.
The Lee Highway Band drew an audience of 85 and over 65 people
attended the Mount Hood Brass Quintet concert. It was very
unfortunate that the December concert had to be cancelled due to bad
weather. To have played was the Wilsonville High String
Quartet directed by Nathan Gibens, Music Man Studio.
The Book Notes concert series is produced by the
Friends of the Wilsonville Library and the Book Store 'Twice Told

Arts Festival
Needs Business Sponsors
The Wilsonville Arts and Culture
Council’s major project, the annual Wilsonville Festival of Arts, is
10, yes TEN years old now. And we’ve come a long, long way, thanks
to support along the route from the Wilsonville business community.
Since 2005 when the Festival moved to its current home in Town
Center Park, the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center have been
our official hosts and more than twenty local businesses have been
sponsors. It has been a very rewarding relationship.
More than ever this year we need the
help of those who do business in Wilsonville to share in the
financial investment needed to produce this community arts
celebration. In the past we have
received government grants to help underwrite the Festival.
Unfortunately in 2010 the event is no longer eligible to apply to
the Clackamas County Tourism Development Council for grants.
We hope local businesses will see the
Festival as an opportunity to promote a good cause and to
demonstrate commitment to our community. Here are two ways to help
make the Wilsonville Festival of Arts another smashing success this
June 5th and 6th:
. Contribute from
$250 to $1,000 and get publicity in our local and regional
advertising.
. Sponsor a booth
at the Festival of Arts to raise awareness of your business to the
public.
Sponsorship packets
are available at
www.WilsonvilleArts.org or by
mail and email from
Theonie@WilsonvilleArts.org. If you have questions, please call
Theonie at 503.638.6933.

Wilsonville Theater
Company's New Production
"Who's on First"
The Wilsonville Theater
Company is very excited about our next production which will be a
hilarious comedy, “Who’s On First”. It is scheduled to be presented
this October. Come and find out what a magic lamp, a rubber
chicken, a gun and a party have in common.
Tickets will be on sale soon on line at our
website:
www.wilsonvilletheatercompany.org or at Lamb’s Thriftway
Wilsonville. General admission ticket price is $10 or $8.00 for
student or seniors (over 60). Performances are at the Frogpond
Grange Hall, 27350 SW Stafford Road, Wilsonville.
The theater company recently elected a new
President, Mary Ann Creason to take the place of the late Dick White
who was instrumental in reviving the group. He is greatly missed
but his spirit and passion lingers. There are also several new and
enthusiastic volunteer members of our board of directors who share
the passion for local live community theater. The Theater Company
always welcomes energetic volunteers to help with all aspects of
theater including technical expertise, make-up and costume
experience and of course actors, directors, and stage and house
managers.
The Wilsonville Theater
Company is currently concentrating on preparing a production for
presentation during the Wilsonville Arts & Culture Festival.
To volunteer to contribute your time, talent or
treasure please call Mary Ann Creason at 503-582-1829 or e-mail
mcreason@gmail.com.

Wilsonville
Boones Ferry Historical Society
Are you aware of your local
community beginnings?
Can you tell your children about the town roots
of their community & the city they are now growing up in?
Do you feel it is important to preserve our
past in the present, in order to make way for our future?
If so, we need you! We need support at all age
levels, “new blood,” local businesses, residents of Wilsonville or
surrounding areas, anyone just plain interested in history!
Wilsonville Boones Ferry Historical Society has
been operating since the ‘90’s & although many accomplished projects
have taken place during these years, the membership has struggled.
Wilsonville is a corporate headquarters for the NW, with a
population of 17,000+. Should it not have more than 12 members that
think history is worth saving? Absolutely it should! Twenty
dollars a year is a small price to pay for membership in an
organization that is striving to strengthen its community
preservation & blend past & present together. Checks can made out
to WBFHS & mailed to, 8200 SW Wilsonville Rd. Wilsonville, Oregon
97070-----Attention: John Smith
Don’t let this rich history slip through the
cracks, teach our children the meaning of “importance of
community!” Volunteer & commit to making today an “historical day”…
join the Wilsonville Boones Ferry Historical Society or take the
time to become involved, or both!
Next quarterly meeting is April 27, 2010 at

To: Wilsonville area businesses:
We would like to introduce you to an advertising opportunity for
your business, and at the same time support arts & culture in
Wilsonville. The Wilsonville Arts & Culture Council (WA&CC) is
working with FunDAZ in a fundraising venture. FunDaz’s goal is
to help fund schools and other programs by giving consumers
discounts on products they use every day. Merchants win with
customers being drawn to their doors. At this time we are able
to offer merchants FREE advertising. Merchants will be listed
on the FunDAZ website for WA&CC. They will also be listed on the FunDaz
national site.
WA&CC is making an impact on the Wilsonville Community and beyond.
The Council’s mission is to promote and support arts and culture by
providing a structure where Wilsonville area arts and culture
organizations can work together. WA&CC’s signature event,
Wilsonville Festival of Arts, has just celebrated its 10th.
anniversary. We are a partner for many other events in the
community such as The NW Author’s Series and Book Notes Concert
Series—both at the library, and the Wilsonville Theater Company
operating at the Frogpond Grange.
What we would like to have happen is for the business community of
Wilsonville to become involved in supporting arts and culture. With
this no-cost-for-participation opportunity, as a FunDaz merchant,
all that is asked is to provide the best discount you have for card
holders, ie: regular “dinner 2 for 1” could be “dinner 2 for 1 plus
a free drink”. We understand this may take some creative
thinking for some business discounts. Feel free to look at the
website
www.wilsonvillecard.org to get an idea, then, let your creative
juices flow.
In the current economic climate, traditional grant funding
organizations are cutting back and WA&CC is feeling the effect. It
is more important than ever that we build our membership base.
We need your help.
There are many ways to become a Sponsor. One way is to become
a supporting sponsor with the FunDaz savings card. Business
can support WA&CC with a bulk purchase and utilize the cards for
employee incentives, birthdays, Christmas gifts, or for special
customer appreciation. We can create a custom package to meet your
needs.
The savings card is good for one year from the date of issue. To
become a FunDaz merchant and support the Wilsonville Arts & Culture
Council, contact Kate Atkins, Membership Coordinator, at
503-692-8653 or
kateatkins@wilsonvilearts.org.
She can also develop a personalized package for your business.
